passing on LAC 2H...

12 hours of baseball for me today...LONG day...

Clips really should cover this 2H line...I should take them...I can't just see this team quit in a playoff game, but I will just watch and see...

Homer refs in Miami...

I have seen homer calls for these hot-shots in Miami all season long, but this takes the cake...The 2Q was brutal and it is just as bad early here in the 3Q...

This is atrocious officiating...

Every time LeBron flops and seemingly has a career-ending injury with every flop, he gets the call...

Flop-city in Miami...Or Homer-city...

Horrid officiating...

Miami won't lose a Home game the entire playoffs if this continues...

You don't have a 32-2 run against a playoff team IN A PLAYOFF GAME unless you are getting help from the refs...

passing on NY 2H & 4Q...

Qualifies as a play and I really believe NY covers the 4Q for sure, but I am going to pass...

2H look...

Lean to the 2H Under at Chicago, but I will pass because the Pace is fairly quick here...Very quick actually...I expect it to slow down, but no play here...

2H Unders a-plenty early tonight...

8 of the first 9 games tonight went Under in the 2H...

Been doing this a long time, and when you have done this as long as I have, well, you NOTICE things...

Almost all Overs since then, but when you look at those match-ups, there should be several Overs in those games as those 4 games had the highest 2H totals of the night...

Thursday thoughts...

There are always interesting lines on the final day of the NBA season as many players take the final day off...

When I finish the expanded version of my database (hopefully by this Fall), I can go back and look at all of the starting lineup changes for the last 31 years on the final day and see how teams did in these peculiar situations...

And by peculiar, I am talking about this Miami Heat line where they are getting 7.5 points tonight...Obviously their Big 3 are all OUT, and I know the Wiz are playing their best basketball of the season right now, but man, can they beat the Heat by close to double-digits?...

I doubt if I play anything tonight, but one thing I have seemed to notice the past few years is a lot of 2H unders on the final day of the season...I would have to double-check that to be sure, and I will in the offseason as I am curious if that has been the case in recent years...

passing on Mia/Bos Under 2H...

I don't know how these 2 teams can score 88 with these players playing...

I really don't, but I am pretty much shutting it down till the playoffs, but I just don't see any way this can hit 88 in the 2H...This PACE is really slow and the turnovers are high...

I probably should make this a 3-star play, but will pass...

This seems like the 2nd-Half-Lock-Of-The-Year Play, but man, I just can't pull the trigger...

passing on CHAR 2H...

Qualifies as a play, but really, how can I take this team?...C'mon...No way...

Monday look...

Final week of the regular season and I was seriously just going to take the week off and wait for the playoffs to start, where I have done fairly well in the first two rounds before doing very average in the conference finals and Finals...

But man, will I be able to stay away from this Philly/NJ game?...

Yeah, I know Philly can clinch a playoff spot here...But they only need to win one of their final 3 and they may not even have to do that as one MILW loss will also get Philly into the postseason for the 2nd straight season...

I know Deron Williams is questionable, but still, this will be the Nets FINAL game in NJ after 35 years before going to Brooklyn next Fall...

But then again, will this mean a damn thing to these spoiled, high-priced athletes, guys who will blow town in a second for a bigger paycheck?...

Maybe I'm reaching here when I think these Nets' players might actually care about giving this game 110% since it is the end of an era in NJ...

We'll see how I feel tomorrow...

If Deron Williams plays, I like NJ here, no matter how much the line would go down...

2H play...

Toronto/Detroit over 45.5, 3Q, laying $110 to win $100 -- This qualifies as a 2H play, easily...Detroit shot 27% in the half and Toronto shot 35%...Well, on March 26, Detroit shot 27% at the half against WASH at WASH, and the Wiz shot 35% in the 1H of that game...So ironically, Detroit shot 27% in the 1H tonight and Toronto shot 35%...That game at WASH barely stayed Under in the 2H, but they scored 50 in the 3Q for an Over...So I will take the Over here in the 3Q (hopefully not out-thinking myself here)...

Passing on SAC 2H...

Qualifies as a play...

I am not taking it...SAC Team Total 2H may be the play here, but I'm not going to take it as I have my 1-0 for the night...

passing on 2H under...

LAL/SA should be an Under in the 2H if you look at the Pace...

I am passing though...

I am looking for a "no-doubter" play like that Bos/Atl 2H play earlier...This one isn't a no-doubter...

2H automatic plays...

Knicks and the Over are the "Automatic  plays" here in CLE...

I am going to stay away as I hope this Pace continues in the 2H here at ATL and if it does, I'll have a 1-0 night as I took BOS/ATL Under 90.5 in the 2H as posted at ThinkDog...

another pass...

Again, this time of the NBA season can be difficult to predict, especially 2H plays as some teams are just mailing it in and PORT seems to be doing that now as Aldridge hasn't been playing...

PORT pretty much qualifies as a play under "normal" circumstances, but no way am I touching them here...

2H pass...

DET qualifies easily, but I'll pass...

They should cover 2H and/or 4Q...

no play in DC...

The Pace is insane so I cannot take that Under in the 2H...

We'll see what the next batch presents in 20 minutes...

2H play at MSG...

Posted at ThinkDog Forum...

CLE qualifies as a 2H play...

But they have been a terrible 2H team all year when getting blown out at the half, and at this point, I still don't trust them...

I am passing...

Clips dominate the 2H...

Wow...

OKC could only manage 25 points in the 2H (after scoring 27 in the 1Q and 25 in the 2Q) as the Clips put the clamps down on them defensively...Clips seem to be coming together at the right time...OKC just could not score in the 2H...Every shot contested and then some...

2 straight game line losses after 11 straight wins...It is a chart-play to fade myself right now like it was during the 1996-97 season when I won 11 straight #1 plays and then lost 4 straight...

Too bad customers had to walk in around 8:00 which caused me to miss the Minny 2H play as I had that one lined up as the half was nearing...

Anyhoo, had to settle for a 1-1 day...

no play on 2H late games...

I want to take GS, but they are playing a lot of new players tonight as Coach Mark Jackson has obviously packed this season in and is going to look at some at some young players and evaluate them under game conditions...Gotta pass here...Doesn't qualify as a play anyway...

If I was forced to take something here, I would take GS in the 4Q...

Pace is ridiculous in this game though through one half...

2H play...

I missed the Minny 2H play as that qualified...

I am taking the Mia/NJ game at the half posted at ThinkDog...

Monday looks...

11 days left in the season, so you can pretty much eliminate a lot of trends at this point...Throw most of them right out the damn window...

This is time of year where you "Shrink the playbook" down to just a precious few plays (trends)...You stick with the tried and true trends from here on out and watch the injury reports as teams will be resting players down the stretch...

There are plenty of teams eliminated from playoff contention and the tricky part is finding out which ones are still playing hard and which ones have packed it in for the season...So this means there are a lot of games where we may only have one team in a game who is interested...

One game that does NOT fit that bill is OKC at the LAC...

The Thunder are still playing for the #1 seed in the West and may have to win out to get it as the Spurs own the tie-breaker with them...One loss may be good enough, but the Spurs (other than playing the Lakers twice) have a fairly easy schedule the rest of the way...

And the Clips are fighting for Home-court advantage in the 1st-round of the playoffs...

And I talked about "shrinking my playbook" for trends the final few weeks...Well, a near-immediate revenge game between 2 teams who have a lot on the line tonight is a trend that is in my shrunken playbook, as this is always a tried-and-true play any time of the season and Vegas is showing us that with OKC listed as a 3-point FAV in this one...

This game may be worth a play, considering the Clips upset OKC at OKC 5 days ago on a last-second floater by Chris Paul...

Vegas also has adjusted for the IMMEDIATE revenge game in this home-and-home set with ATL and TOR...The Raptors surprised Atlanta last night with a 16-point spanking at Atlanta and now the 2 teams play at Toronto...ATL listed as a 5.5 to 6-point FAV...

The Wizards are still a reversal chart-play to the Under as they play CHI, who has had 4 straight Unders in regulation time, although 2 of those Unders went Over in overtime...

GS 4 straight Overs following 4 straight Unders playing SA, who loves Overs, but I worry about a potential blowout there, although on the surface, 10.5 points to GS at Oracle looks like a gift, but David Lee being out is the reason and he has been playing great for the Warriors the past few weeks at least...

Going to pass on this one...Hard to, as it qualifies as a play, but I will watch this one...

passing on Wiz 2H...

I think they win this game and this qualifies as a play, but man, as bad as they were last night?...

Gonna be careful with 2H plays down the stretch...

passing on GS/LAC under 2H...

Should be an Under, but I will pass...

automatic play...

For those who follow, you should know by now that this GS/LAC afternoon game has an automatic play to the Under as it is a 12:30 start local time in LA...

I'll pass and probably regret it...Still a chart-play to fade GS here, but I didn't take the first 2 winners, so I cannot jump on the train after it's left the station...

passing on ORL 2H...

I am wondering if ORL is just going to quit here...

Qualifies as a play, but I won't take it...

Quasi chart-play...

Have one of those on the Lakers tonight...

I will try and explain that one on the ThinkDog forum, and since people are asking me questions about chart-plays, I will give a brief run-down on chart-plays and the positives in playing them...

brief FRI looks...

I don't like tonight's board much...

Miami can name the score against CHAR...

NJ looks too easy to me...Hard not to take them as I think it's take NJ or stay away, but the Sixers suddenly have blown out NJ and TOR right in a row this week after stinking the joint up for quite a while...

If I had to play one tonight, it would be Miami, even though I don't think I have ever taken a favorite of more than 10 points in my 30 years of handicapping...Ok, well, I have RARELY done that, not sure about "ever"...I may have done that once or twice when I was in High School betting every NBA game on the board with a friend as a junior and senior...

CLE still a chart-play, but I missed the first 4 winners, so no way I am jumping on the train this late...

chart-plays...

Busy day and I didn't have time to play these, so I will stalk for 2H plays, but the 2 chart-plays going for tonight are Mem/SA over and the Dallas Mavericks...

I like the Over better as I an not crazy about laying 6.5 at GS...

passing on NY/Milw Under 2H...

I may regret this one, but I am passing...

The scoring really should slow down now that they have had their fun in the 1H...

busy as hell...

I am going to have to pull back probably the next few weeks as I am swamped now with baseball duties (2 leagues I am involved with starting up) and work is suddenly very busy tonight and will be for the next 2 weeks...

No time to cap today although I posted a few quick glances on the forum...

I will stalk for 2H lines, but that is about it...

But, I'll be incredibly picky with these...Looking to do maybe 2 or 3 plays a week the final 2 weeks of the season...

passing on 2H over in DC...

Poor shooting by ORL (shooting decent from trey-land or they'd have about 35 points), but I don't trust ORL to be suddenly shooting well in the 2H...I am at work and cannot see what is going on, but it is obvious this isn't going Over without OT, so the streak ends at 11...

Will be looking closely at Bos/Mia at the half...

2H plays 1-4 (with the 76ers loss tonight) in April, 1H plays 0-1, but game lines/totals are 6-0 for April...

2H plays in worst slump in probably more than 3 years and I wonder if that now that we are in the final 3 weeks of a strike-shortened season, my 2H criteria should be thrown out the window at this point...

2H plays also finished March 2-5 my last 7 after a good start, so I am 3-9 my last 12 2H plays...

I think Miami and OKC blow out their opponents tonight, but I will stalk 2H lines for now...

automatic play, but...

Anyone who has followed me over the years knows that the "automatic" play for NBA afternoon games is the Under...3 easy ones last weekend...They have hit at a high clip over the years...

However, the Knicks may perhaps be early-risers, because they are 4-0 to the Over this season in Sunday matinees, all at MSG, where they happen to host the Bulls on Easter...Da Bulls are 3-1 to the Under on Sunday afternoon games this season...

Again, my first inclination is to take the Under here, and for me it's take the Under or don't take the total, and in this instance, with the Knicks being 4-0 to the Over at MSG this season on Sunday afternoons, I will pass...

I will not be around for a 2H play on the early game, but I will be around for the night games...

no plays on 10:35 games...

Nothing resembling a play here...

7 games on Sunday...

I won't be around for the 2H play in the afternoon game but should be around for all the rest...

no play in PHOE...

Tempted to take LAL -5, +210 in the 2H, but their bench is worthless, being outscored 39-6 in the 1H...

I thought LAL would rise up without Kobe as there would be a lot more shots to go around and there would be better ball distribution, and that is the case with their starters, but their bench needs to get involved, #1, and #2, it might help to play some defense...

Still think LAL may get the victory here, but I am still not taking it, I don't trust this team right now, which is why I laid off the game line to begin with...

I should take LAL...

Boy, I may really, really kick myself for passing on this one, but I think the Lakers win this one...

PHOE off a tough loss at DEN last night where the Nuggets finished the game on a 9-0 run to win and the Lakers got embarrassed at Staples last night after leading by 9 at the half before HOU throttled them in the 2H to win as Bynum got tossed for the 2nd straight game...

I'd be shocked to not see the Lake-Show play 48 minutes tonight and win this one by 8-to-12 (and this is virtually a Pick here), BUT, man, I just don't trust this team right now...

Lakers have been better on back-enders over the last 7 weeks, too, but so has PHOE...

I should just follow my gut and jimp all over the Lake-Show, but I'll be watching in on DTV, for sure...

no play at Staples...

nothing there at all...

9 games on Saturday...

passing on Phoe/Den over 2H...

Pace super-quick and the FG%'s were pretty darn low in the 1H so I would lean to the Over in the 2H, EXCEPT that this is a BIG game for both teams, should be like a playoff game and I have seen PHOE use a lot of shot clock on their possessions in many games this year in the 2H...

Same with GS/Utah...I wanted to take this Under in the 2H badly, but the Pace is ridiculous and the shooting %'s are not super-high at all at the half...

If you have access to Live betting, take Dallas in the 4Q as they just got outscored 30-10 in the 3Q at Home vs. Portland...

Hornets qualify as a play...

I can't take them as SA is playing too damn good right now...

FRI looks...

I am surprised by this Was/NJ total...

Does Vegas follow chart-plays?...

This is still a strong chart-play to the Over for the Wiz...

But NJ has gone Under 7 of 8 and 4 straight Home games...They are playing heir first home game after a 4-game road trip which generally leads to a flat spot for teams in this situation...

So I checked the 3-games-in-3-days situational spot (As the Wiz are playing their 3rd game in 3 days), thinking there might be a rash of Overs, but I sopped counting after I saw 21 of 39 Unders in this spot...

But the Pace was a lot quicker than it seemed in DET last night because you have to factor in the 37 turnovers  and 68 FTs...Granted, WAS employed the "Hack-a-Wallace" strategy to get back into the game late in the 4Q, but I believe Wallace went 5-for-8 during that stretch from the line...The game would have went over a lot easier had some of the 24 missed FTs been made during the game and as you can see, only 3 of those 24 misses happened during the "Hack-a-Wallace" stint right before the 2-minute mark left in the game...

The play is the Over or stay away, but man, Vegas made this line a tough one with the 196.5...I know they are basing it off the 197 total these same 2 teams played to just 2 weeks ago in this same building...

I may still take this Over anyway and ride out the chart-play...Deron Williams is probable, Anthony Morrow has been shooting better recently for NJ, and Nene is out for WAS and Seraphin stll hasn't blocked a shot in 4 games and he put up 15 more points on 7-for-12 shooting so why not take the Over?...

We'll see..

passing on LAC/Sac Over 2H...

Del Negro seems to be monitoring his starter's minutes in this one as the benches were terrible early in the 2Q...Cousins getting 3 fouls quickly didn't help, either...

Pace not bad, but the turnovers are high and the Clips were already using a ton of shot clock in the 2Q...

So I am actually going to pass despite seeing a lot of value in this 2H Over...

missed FTs galore in Motown...

Good thing I am not watching this Wizards game...

15 missed FTs in the 1H...That is a killer...

Pace not that bad at all...A ton of FTs and turnovers, but the missed FTs are going to make the Over tough here on the game line...

I wish I would have waited for the 2H line as I have some value taking the Over on the 2H line, BUT, not with  a game bet already on the Board...

I will let it ride and hope these teams start making some FTs...

passing on 2H under at Staples...

Incredibly fast pace here, so only a lean to the 2H under...I am not taking it...

I may start making 2H plays again as they are starting to hit again, especially tonight as there were a lot of borderline plays I passed on that won, so maybe another hot streak on 2H plays is about to happen, so I may jump on a few...

Also, 2-0 on my plays today...

These would have been multiple-unit plays next season...I think you could tell I liked these 2 plays a lot...

another look...

2H plays may have turned the corner as many hit tonight, but I am playing it safe...

Phoe/Utah Under another one that I will pass on...

Need the heat to have one of their patented 4Q runs...Still waiting...

2H looks...

Worried about this Over as only 5 points were scored in the final 3 1/2 minutes of the half...That sickened me, actually because I though there would be PLENTY of wriggle-room for a 2H slow-down and now there is very, very little...

Pace is ok, and I am at work so I can't see the game, but obviously turnovers played a part in that slow-down as there 19 turnovers in the 1H...So they need to clean that up and get up a few more shots and get to the FT line a bit more...

I'll pass on the Under with TOR and Philly, 2H, although I passed on  a fairly strong Mia/Phi 2H under last night and regretted it...

If you think Miami will win...

You gotta take them...

Philly/Miami Under 2H is pretty much a play, but I am passing...

only playing super-strong 2H plays right now...

Knicks Under is a borderline play...

2H plays are struggling right now, so I am pulling it back until they turn around...Only super-strong 2H plays for now...

No way I am taking CLE as I already mentioned how bad a 2H team they have been...

Monday, April 2, 2012

Hmmmm...wrong halftime score...

I lost some value on this play as DonBest had the halftime score 49-33, so I thought the Mavs were down 16 and the 7 would take it to a 9-point loss for a push and an 8-point loss for a win...

And even Pinnacle had a Dallas -16 (+483) 2nd half line as they thought the Mavs were down 16...

But now I see 14...

This doesn't change the qualifications for a play as my criteria doesn't look at the halftime score...But the value of a 2H play is based on the 2H score and some plays that qualify for me criteria-wise are nixed as plays if the "new game line" takes falls into that "Bermuda Triangle" range I talked about in my blog a few weeks ago (maybe 10 days or so ago)...

So I lost some value as the new line falls right on to the only key number in the NBA (7), which sucks, but it would have really sucked if the new number went below 7...

Anyhoo...

Dallas 2H...

2H plays have not done well the last week...

With the current criteria I have the wins come in bunches during the hot streaks, and during the cold streaks, they hit around 40-to-50%...This has been about a week-long cold streak which should break at any time (hopefully)...

This play qualifies:

Dallas Mavericks -7, 2H, laying $100 to win $103...

GL...

passing on Mem/OKC Over 2H...

Pace is there for an Over...On the cusp of qualifying for a play...

The only borderline play here...I think it'll go Over, but I'll watch and see in about 60 minutes...

Memphis...

Memphis Grizzlies +7.5, laying $106 to win $100 -- Memphis is starting to gel now after Randolph has been back for a bunch of games...Going to fade OKC in this sandwich game off a huge National TV win...

GL...

Wizards 11 straight Unders...

Won't have much time to post early this week, too much going on...I do have a game circled and will post about that at some point...

I don't have time to look right now, but I think the longest Under streak I have in my database is either 12 or 13...I think it is 12...it's harder for an Under streak to prevail than an Over streak for 2 reasons (OT games and a random hot shooting night can destroy an Under streak at any time)...

Tonight is the best chance to end it with Milwaukee in town...I think the Over will happen as last night's game stayed under by 1 point after a bunch of easy Unders...That "near miss" can often be a sign that an Under streak is about to end...I won't touch this streak at this point until it ends...I should have ridden it out longer...

All I can really do is stalk for 2H lines the next 2 or 3 days although there is a sandwich game with Oklahoma City that I may have to take tonight, although the line is moving against me despite more plays on OKC...

It's either take Memphis or stay away from the game...

Bynum out 2H...

I'll stay away from the Lakers as Bynum is out with a sprained ankle at the half...X-rays negative and he'll be re-evaluated...

No play on the 2H lines, as the stats are even (almost dead even across the board), except LAL got more FTs...

no plays on 9:05 games..

no plays at the half here...

Sundays will be tough here on out as baseball is starting up in my Sunday league after Easter and Easter is of course next week...Unless it rains...Then I'll have some time to cap on Sundays...

One game left as I hope GS can get about a 7-point lead at the half...Severely doubt it, but I can wish...
